NONGPOH: Mawtamur village in Ri Bhoi district has hardly seen any development and has poor road connectivity. One has to walk 6km to reach the village. Despite the problems a lower primary school here has been spreading the light of education for the last 50 years.
Mawtamur Government Lower Primary School was established on March 18, 1967, by then Executive Member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council in-charge Education late Hopingstone Lyngdoh.
The school celebrated its golden jubilee recently. The programme was attended by local MDC Victor Rani and Syiem of Hima Jirang, R.H Wahlang.
Rani congratulated the school management for the milestone it achieved. “This shows the hard work and dedication of the teachers and the school managing committee for the benefit of the people of this area,” he said.
Rani assured that he would take up the matter of road connectivity and development of the village with the concerned departments.
