SHILLONG: The need to serve traditional cuisines especially Garo delicacy Kappa in Meghalaya Houses located in Delhi and other places was raised by Independent legislator John Leslee Sangma in the Assembly during the question hour on Wednesday.
Kappa is prepared with baking soda, with pastes of ginger, and garlic added to meat or fish.   GAD Minister HDR Lyngdoh assured that the delicacy will be introduced in the Meghalaya Houses. Raising a question, Sangma said that it should be the policy of the Government to serve traditional dishes in Meghalaya Houses.
He also pointed out that in many Meghalaya Houses, the caterers, who are from outside the State, are ignorant about the traditional cuisines of the State.
In this context, Saleng Sangma (Independent) said that trained youths from the State who have expertise in hospitality sectors should be entrusted with catering works.
Ardent Basaiawmoit (HSPDP) and Nihim D Shira (NPP) wanted to know from the Government whether the job reservation policy was followed in Meghalaya Houses.
They also wanted the Government to improve the facilities in Meghalaya Houses.
Earlier raising a supplementary question, John Leslee Sangma stressed the need on the part of the Government to provide adequate accommodation to the students in Meghalaya Houses.
The Minister said that accommodation is provided to the students in dormitories.
