SHILLONG: The State Cabinet on Wednesday once again amended the Meghalaya Compulsory Registration of Marriage Act.
After the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said that the bill has been amended as per the recommendations of the Law Department.
The proposed amendments to the Bill will be submitted in the Assembly on Friday and then it will be the prerogative of the House to decide whether the Bill will be passed or sent to the Select Committee for further consideration.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister MM Danggo had assured the Assembly that the Government would bring amendments to the Act and its rules after several churches, NGOs and the public petitioned on the need to amend certain clauses of the Act.
