SHILLONG: The Minister in charge of Sports and Youth Affairs, Zenith Sangma, has lamented that there is hardly any sporting infrastructure in Tura town.
Replying to a half-an-hour discussion initiated by Independent legislator John Leslee Sangma on matters related to sports infrastructure in the Assembly on Thursday, Sangma said there is only one indoor sports stadium in Tura.
According to Sangma, last month, the Government sanctioned one indoor stadium and it negotiated with one person about the land for construction of the indoor stadium. He said the Government has sanctioned Rs 6 crore for the proposed indoor stadium in Tura town.
Sangma also said the Dikki Bandi stadium has been constructed in a haphazard manner and the Government has made a new DPR for its renovation and Rs 3 crore has been sanctioned out of Rs 11 crore earmarked for the renovation of the stadium. He also said that the government has zeroed in on the area of Ganolgre Songma for the proposed football stadium for Tura under DoNER scheme with an estimated cost of Rs 40 crore.
