Govt schemes to be audited for better results

SHILLONG: The common man can now hope for better implementation of government schemes with the State Legislative Assembly passing the Meghalaya Community Participation and Public Service Audit Bill, 2017, on Friday.
The objective of the Bill is to review delivery of public services and implementation of government schemes and programmes through a participatory social audit by the government as well as stakeholders. It will also ensure concurrent course correction to achieve the desired outcome.
Under the Audit Bill, the government may, by notification, constitute a State Social Audit Council.
The programmes and public services under different sectors that will be subject to social audit include Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, midday meal, various healthcare services, services provided by MeECL, climate change activities and services provided by the PHE Department, among others.
