TURA: The State Government’s decision to transfer Danakgre A’king from Rongram block in West Garo Hills to newly created Rerapara block in South West Garo Hills has not gone down well with A’king Nokma Enila Ch Marak.
Marak, in a letter to the West Garo Hills deputy commissioner, has opposed the move and demanded that villages under her A’king remain in Rongram block. She has warned that no documents concerning the A’kingland, including Tura town, will be issued to anyone until these matters are resolved.
“Despite the fact that Tura in West Garo Hills also falls under my A’king, Danakgre village has been included in South West Garo Hills district. If Tura falls under West Garo Hills, all villages under the A’king must remain in the West. If not, then Tura must also be transferred to South West Garo Hills district,” Marak said and added that this was done without her knowledge and without public consent.
Stating that the Government’s move was creating confusion among people in her area as Ampati is far from Tura and the Danakgre A’king, Marak accused the Government of taking advantage of her ignorance about the matter.
