U-15, U-18 inter-school cricket tourney begins

Shillong: The 12th IP Das Memorial Under 15 and 9th Babu Ondromoni Dkhar Under 18 Inter School Cricket League 2017 organised by the Shillong Cricket Association got underway at the Cricket Ground, Polo on Friday. The Opening ceremony was attended by 18 schools in the senior category and 6 schools in the junior category in presence of the family members of the sponsors.
Naba Bhattacharjee, Hon’y Secretary, Meghalaya Cricket Association and Coordinator NADP-BCCI while declared the tournament open. Others present were G Kharkongor, SCA General Secretary, Biswajit Das, AGS and Leonard Wankhar Tournament Committee Convener among others.
In the first match in senior category, Fairyland High School defeated Laban Bengalee Boys’ Higher Secondary School (LBBHSS) by 28 runs. Being put to bat first, Fairyland High School scored 159 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 25 overs in which Kausar Ali scored 60 runs off 54 balls. For LBBHSS, Naqueeb Qureshi took four wickets giving away 32 runs in five overs.
While chasing, Laban Bengalee Boys’ scored 131 runs losing nine wickets in 25 overs. Akash Deb contributed 38 runs off 57 balls.  For Fairyland High School, Kausar Ali picked up four wickets giving away 26 runs in five overs.
Meanwhile, Fairyland High School registered win in the Junior category as well by defeating Madrassa School by five wickets. Madrassa School elected to bat first and scored 116 runs losing seven wickets in 20 overs. Md. Zahid scored 31 runs off 34 balls. Sahil Gupta picked up two wickets giving away 20 runs in four overs.
Fairyland High School chased down the target with ease and scored 117 runs losing five wickets in 17 overs. Manibhusan Thakur scored 41 runs off 54 balls. Md. Zahid picked up one wicket for Madrassa.
