2 liquor smugglers among 3 held

SHILLONG: Two alleged liquor smugglers, one of whom is a teenager, from Bangladesh have been apprehended when they were trying to cross over to the neighbouring country at Dulainala in South West Khasi Hills.
A BSF press communiqué said the troops deployed in Dulainala seized 12 bottles from the possession of the two persons, identified as 28-year-old Amir Hossain and 18-year-old Noor Mohammed.
A mobile phone and a Bangladeshi SIM card were also seized. The BSF said the duo crossed the border on Saturday and bought liquor from a border village in East Khasi Hills.
BSF has stepped up vigil along the border.
In another incident, BSF troops deployed at Killapara in West Garo Hills apprehended an Indian national, identified as 58-year-old Abdul Hai, while he was trying to cross the border and enter Bangladesh. The troops found Rs 5,500 in Indian currency in Hai’s possession.
