Shillong: A condolence meeting in memory of one of the founding members and the first Chancellor of Martin Luther Christian University, Dr K.M Shyamprasad, was held on Monday on the university campus.
Prominent personalities, faculty members, staff and students attended the condolence meeting.
Apart from Vice Chancellor R.G Lyngdoh and Registrar D.D Ingty, members of the Board of Governors, MLCU, and Patricia Mukhim, editor of The Shillong Times, were also present. Shyamprasad passed away on March 25 due to a massive heart attack.
He was 64 and is survived by three sisters.
He studied medicine at Vellore CMC. In his early years he worked at Apollo Hospital Chennai and CSI Rainy Hospital.
In his later years he was the vice president of the National Board of Examinations and served in several government health committees, including the boards of AIIMS and PGI Chandigarh. He had earlier been chairman of the CMC Ludhiana Board.
Shyamprasad’s funeral was held at his residence in Chennai on March 26, which was attended by about 200 people.
USTM condoles poet’s death
The Chancellor of University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) and Chairman, ERD Foundation Mahbubul Hoque and the entire ERDF family consisting of all constituent institutions, expressed grief at the untimely demise of an eminent dramatist, poet and novelist, Dr Arun Sarma on March 27. He was awarded the “ERDF Excellence Award” in 2013.
