SHILLONG: A joint action committee of social organisations met the deputy commissioner of Ri Bhoi, C.P Gotmare, on Monday and urged him to stop construction of a third filling station in the Umran Dairy area.
The organisations — which include CSWO Umran Dairy unit, CSWO central body, Laban, and Ri Bhoi People’s Movement — in their letter to Gotmare raised strong objection against the new station as there are already two filling stations.
They also enclosed a CD containing photographs along with signatures of villagers opposing the move.
The joint action committee will also submit a petition to the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board and the National Green Tribunal. It was unanimously decided that if no action is taken to immediately stop construction of the new station, the committee will decide on its future course of action.
