GHADC Session

TURA: The ruling NPP alliance in the GHADC found itself on a sticky wicket on the second day of the supplementary budget session when Congress MDC Stevie Marak punched holes in the reply given by the executive member in connection with the construction of a guest house.
The opposition accused the NPP alliance of misusing funds by trying to list completed projects under ongoing works.
The Congress member raised a question pertaining to the construction of the council rest house at Mahendraganj in South West Garo Hills.
When the civil works EM Dipul R. Marak stated that the rest house was constructed in 2016-17 with aid from the Centre’s special assistance funds, it was objected by the Congress MDC who accused the EM of misleading the House.
The Congress MDC said the rest house was constructed much before 2016-17 and demanded a clarification from the EM.
Later, Tura MDC Rupert Sangma alleged that the ruling NPP alliance was passing off the already completed projects as ongoing works under the special assistance funding.
“Even the Tura Council market complex has been marked as one of the projects under the central funding. But the shopping complex was constructed years ago and even inaugurated by previous CEM late Purno K. Sangma,” alleged the Tura MDC.
