JOWAI: Despite a huge chunk of the State budget being utilised for education, Meghalaya remains only above bottom-ranked Arunachal Pradesh in the North East in terms of the literacy rate.
Aiming to counter this trend, Bosco Integrated Development Society  through its Community School & Children’s Clubs project has made efforts to lower the dropout rate in early stages and bring about increase in literacy rate in the area of its intervention, especially in East Khasi Hills and East Jaintia Hills districts.
Bosco Integrated Development Society has adopted three time-tested approaches — mainstreaming of out-of school children into regular schools, conducting of evening schools and skills training for those already working and motivation programme and advocacy through children’s clubs.
