SHILLONG: Nine of the 11 shortlisted consultancy firms have given their presentations for the new Assembly building and the panel concerned will meet shortly to choose one.
Sources said the nine firms will be given marks and the Assembly panel that shortlisted the names may also keep one firm, besides the chosen one, on standby. Two of the 11 firms did not turn up for the presentation that started on Tuesday.
The panel will meet shortly and after the selection of the firm, it will be asked to make a structural design and prepare a detailed project report.
After the heritage Assembly building was engulfed in fire on January 9, 2001, there was undue delay of 16 years in constructing a new building.
Earlier, the Assembly functioned temporarily from State Central Library and currently the business is transacted at the Arts and Culture building in Rilbong.
Though several locations were identified for a new Assembly building, proposals could not materialise. Finally, the government has decided to construct it at Mawdiangdiang.
