SHILLONG: The PHE and PWD departments have decided to co-ordinate to ensure that there is no disruption in water supply when road construction work is carried out.
PHE Minister Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday said the government will take preventive measures to ensure uninterrupted water supply.
Water supply to Shillong city was disrupted on Monday after a 750-mm C.I. gravity main pipe of the Greater Shillong Water Supply was damaged at Lumsohriew (near Lad Mawreng).
Earlier on March 26, another pipe was damaged at Laitjem affecting water supply for four days.
Tynsong said senior officials of PHE and PWD besides NHAI will visit the site on Wednesday to take preventive measures.
He also said that repair work is in full swing and the water supply will be restored by Thursday.
On Tuesday, civil society groups led by Erwin Sutnga and Agnes Kharshiing inspected the areas where pipes were damaged.
