Man held for stabbing
JOWAI: The special team of Jowai Police arrested Paulus Lamin of Mukroh village in West Jaintia Hills from Riatsasim, Jowai. Lamin who was absconding since October 2016 after he stabbed Sabit Thappa was arrested and will be forwarded to the Court on Wednesday. Lamin along with a friend stabbed Thappa due to an altercation between them after consuming alcohol on October 30 last year, Police said.

Demand for govt college in EJH
JOWAI: The Jaintia Students’ Movement has demanded setting up of a Government College in East Jaintia Hills in order to ease admission problem faces by students of the District. To pressurise the government, the students’ body has convened a public meeting on April 8 from 9:30 am at Don Bosco Playground, Khliehriat.

Citizen’s portal for tracking crimes/criminals
SHILLONG: The Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Shillong has informed that the Citizen’s Portal under the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) project was launched in Meghalaya on September15 last year. The Citizen Portal will enable citizens to register complaints or send information over the internet and track its status online. The URL for the Meghalaya Citizen Portal is http://citizenportal.meghpol.nic.in.  “On registering a complaint on the Citizen’s Portal, registration number will automatically be generated and acknowledged on screen. Simultaneously, the Officer-in-Charge of the concerned Police Station will be alerted by the system to initiate action on the information/complaint. Thereafter, Police will enquire into the matter and contact the complainant.” the SP said. Enlightening more about the CCTNS, the SP said that one can search the current status of any complaint was filed online by him/her. The services available in the Citizen’s Portal will further be expanded and the following services are under consideration for inclusion in due course.

Khasi movie on First World War to be released
SHILLONG: A Khasi film, Because We Did Not Choose, a historical documentary on the impact of the First World War and the implications of modernity on indigenous communities will be released soon. Director Wanphrang K Diengdoh informed that the film is 92 minutes long and took 3 years to research and shoot across India, the UK and France. Diengdoh has also worked as an editor and co-writer in the Award winning film My Name is Eeooow.

BSF personnel sensitised on human rights
TURA: A sensitisation programme on human rights was conducted for BSF personnel of West Garo Hills, in a frontier level vertical interaction on optimisation of community relations at 141 BSF Battalion recently. All ranks from six BSF battalion based in Tura participated in the programme, organised by the 141 BSF Battalion under the aegis of IG BSF Meghalaya Frontier, Shillong. A release issued here on Tuesday said, that sensitisation of all BSF personnel is a regular affair.

The Meghalaya Biodiversity Board in its 11th Board Meeting on March 29 decided to upload the draft “Meghalaya State Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (SBSAP), 2016-2026” on its website (www.megbiodiversity.nic.in).
