SHILLONG: The enrolment for the third phase of Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) is likely to start from May. Informing this here on Saturday, sources from the Health department said that the policy period for the Scheme would be from June.
The third phase of the scheme will offer new facilities and ensure wider coverage of the State’s populace, the sources claimed.
Sources, however, added that the State Government would have to take the approval of the Centre for enrolling new beneficiaries into the scheme.Though the Central Government has agreed in principle for enrolment of new beneficiaries, an official intimation is still awaited. Replying to a query, sources said that even though the State Government would have to pay the premium to the insurance agency there are no financial issues with regards to the implementation of the scheme at the moment.
The Government of Meghalaya with ongoing support from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare recently signed an agreement with New India Assurance Company Limited, a general insurance company in India, to roll out the enhanced phase-3 of the MHIS to provide a comprehensive and universal health insurance cover to the entire population of the State.
MHIS 3 is based on Government of India’s existing national health insurance scheme – Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana with an enhanced coverage of up to Rs. 2,80,000.
