Shad Sukra of the Pnars concludes

JOWAI: Ka Shad Sukra – a sowing festival organised separately by the Sein Raij Tuber and Sein Raij Jowai concluded on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
The Sein Raij Tuber oragnised the annual Shad Sukra festival at Biar, Tuberkmai Shnong whereas the Sein Raij Jowai started with inaugural function at Mukoi Pyrdi, Iongpiah Jowai and later march toward Thaw Shad Sukra of the Sein Raij at Iawmusiang Jowai.
A displayed of traditional dances at Iawmusiang attracted thousands including members of the Sein Raij Jowai and others.
Meghalaya Chief Secretary, KS Kropha attended the celebration as chief guest. West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner, R Rapthap and WJH Police chief, R Muthu also witnessed the festival.
Local MLA, Justine Dkhar and Local MDC, Laski Dkhar attended the Tuber’s Shad Sukra as chief guest and guest of honour beside Rymbai MDC, Violet Lyngdoh and thousand others witnessed the festival.
Sein Raij Shnongs of the Sein Raij Tuber from more than 36 villages displayed their traditional, Cultural and Farmers’ dance at the Biar. Shad Sukra is celebration during the month of April just before the sowing seasons. It is believed that no one will set foot unless the Celebration has completed in their respective village or Raijs. Early, the celebration was organised only in villages but for the past few years, a joint celebration has been organised by the Sein Raij including Sein Raij Jowai, Tuber and Thadmuthlong and others.
