SHILLONG: The KSU’s Ranikor Circle and South West Khasi Hills district unit have accused the loyalists of Ranikor MLA Martin M Danggo of being partial in the distribution of relief materials to the people of the area.
While expressing gratitude to Danggo for being swift in extending help to the over 1500 households affected by thunderstorm and hailstone recently, president of KSU Ranikor circle Marconi Thongni however said the local representative should have met the victims or the traditional heads personally instead of letting his “loyalists decide on the beneficiaries”.
Tin for roofs, mugs, buckets and rice were distributed to the victims affected by thunderstorm.
Thongni alleged that Danggo relies on his loyalists to select the names of beneficiaries thus leading to favoritism.
Accusing the C& RD Block of discrimination, the KSU leader said, “There is politics in play in the C &RD block. It is the duty of the officers to visit the villages, families and take pictures but they in turn send the loyalists of our representative.”
“Though the BDO has made an assessment of the villages, the list of the beneficiaries given by the traditional heads to the officer was manipulated by loyalists of Danggo,” the KSU leader alleged.
Aghast over the alleged favoritism in distribution of relief materials, Thongni said, “We have decided that we will not allow the hosting of any festival in the district as they cost crores.”
