SHILLONG: Leader of Opposition Donkupar Roy had a narrow escape when a mob pelted stones on his vehicle at Byrnihat in Ri Bhoi district on Wednesday night, partially damaging the vehicle.
UDP leader Alan Dkhar informed that a convoy including Roy’s vehicle was returning from Tura when a mob hurled stones on their vehicles at 13th Mile near the junction at Byrnihat.
“We saw a truck parked on the wrong side of the highway and glass splinters were strewn on the road. As we were passing by people started pelting stones in which his (Roy’s) vehicle’s side glass and bumper were partially damaged,” Dkhar said, adding that the State DGP has been informed of the incident.
On March 5, a similar incident had occurred at Byrnihat when miscreants from Assam vandalised offices of the Transport, DMR and Sales Tax departments.
