Nongpoh: The National Human Right Council of India, North Eastern Region, has come out in support of the Ri Bhoi Students’ Union’s demand for setting up of a government college in Ri Bhoi district.
The education cell of the National Human Right Council of India (NHRCI) on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and Education Minister Deborah Marak demanding a government college in Ri Bhoi district.
Referring to the chief minister’s assurance on February 9 this year regarding establishment of a government college in the district, the NHRCI urged the government to speed up the process for the betterment of students from economically backward families.
Incidentally, the Ri-Bhoi Tourism & Environmental Development Forum, Mawlong Area Welfare Development Association and Ri-Bhoi Youth Development Organisation have also extended their support to the demand for a government college to promote quality education in the district and the State as a whole.
