Nepalese prez to start five-day visit from Monday
New Delhi: Nepalese President Bidya Devi Bhandari will arrive here on Monday on a five-day visit during which she will meet the senior leadership here besides visiting temples in Gujarat and Odisha. This is her first state visit abroad after assuming the office in October 2015. She is visiting at the invitation of President Pranab Mukherjee. “A high-level delegation comprising minister, MPs and senior officials will be accompanying her. “Her visit will reflect the priority that India attaches to further strengthening the age-old and unique partnership with Nepal, shared cultural and historical linkages and strong people-and-people relationship,” Joint Secretary (North) in the external affairs ministry Sudhakar Dalela said on Sunday. She will meet President Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and other leaders, he said at an MEA briefing. Five school students attacked by stray dogs
Muzaffarnagar: Five school students were injured when a group of dogs attacked them at Dhabheri village in Shamli district, police said on Sunday. The incident occurred on Saturday morning when the five children were on their way to school and the stray dogs attacked them here, they said. Alisha (10), Ashu (9) Anaf (12) and two boys named Shahdab (8) and Khalid (12), were rushed to a hospital with serious injuries, police said. According to reports, similar incidents had taken place in Saharanpur and Bijnor districts where two persons lost their lives. A 20-year-old man was on Saturday killed by dogs in Bijnor district. A six-year-old child was killed by dogs in Chilkana village of Saharanpur district two days ago, according to the reports. (PTI)
BSF seizes fake Indian notes of Rs 7 lakh face value
Kolkata: The Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have seized fake Indian currency notes of the face value of Rs 7 lakh in West Bengal’s Malda district, an official said on Sunday. Acting on a tip-off, the BSF troopers launched a raid near the fence gate of the India-Bangladesh border at Churiantpur on Saturday night and seized 350 counterfeit notes of Rs 2,000 denomination from the spot, Deputy Inspector General R.P.S. Jaswal of the BSF’s South Bengal Frontier said in a press release. “The criminals present on the Indian side to collect the FICN (Fake Indian Currency Notes) were challenged by the troopers but managed to escape,” he added. The BSF of the South Bengal Frontier has seized counterfeit Indian currency notes of the face value of Rs 21.98 lakh and apprehended two smugglers so far this year. (IANS)
Two on bike killed in road accident
Kolkata: Two persons on a bike lost their lives after being hit by a speeding truck in West Bengal’s Nadia district, police said on Sunday. According to police, none of the riders had their helmets on during the accident which made their injuries fatal. “Apurba Haldar, who was riding the bike with pillion rider Suraj Sonkar, was hit by a speeding pick-up truck while crossing the road near Kalyani Buddha Park region in Nadia district at around 1.30 a.m.,” said an officer from Kalyani police station. “The two accident victims were taken to the JNM Hospital in Kalyani where they were declared dead,” he said. SIT summons former Goa CM in illegal mining case
PANAJI: A Special Investigation Team of Goa crime branch has summoned former chief minister Digambar Kamat to appear before it in connection with an illegal mining case of 2013. “Former chief minister Digambar Kamat has been summoned to appear before the SIT on April 18,” SP Goa crime branch, Priyanka Kashyap said. This is the second summon issued to Kamat in connection with the illegal mining case. He was first questioned by the SIT in February 2014. According to a senior crime branch official, Goa Mines and Geology Department’s former director Arvind Lolienkar has also been summoned along with Kamat. Lolienkar was arrested by the SIT in connection with the case in March 2014. He is currently out on bail. A report of Justice (retd) M B Shah Commission had earlier stated that illegal mining to the tune of Rs 35,000 crore took place in Goa from 2005 to 2012, when the Supreme Court banned iron ore extraction in the state.
