SHILLONG: West Khasi Hills police have started investigation into the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya School case where a teacher was sacked for sexually harassing over 12 students.
The accused, Viswajit Jha from Uttar Pradesh, was terminated from service on April 10. He was a PGT Physics teacher and was working on contract.
Officials said the school was asked to file FIR a week back but no police complaint was filed till date. Police are investigating the case on the basis of a report of a probe team that was set up by the district magistrate.
G.D Kharwanlang, West Khasi Hills SP, said a team of police went to the school a few days ago, but it was closed and the principal was also out of station.
The probe committee had recommended that JNV Samiti Shillong should lodge an FIR against the teacher under the POCSO Act.
Questions are being raised on whether the school was backing the sacked teacher as no FIR was filed against the teacher by the concerned school.
A legal expert said that since it is a POCSO case, no compromise is possible between the school and the teacher.
