SHILLONG: The National People’s Party (NPP) is yet to decide on how many seats it would contest in the 2018 Assembly elections.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Sunday, NPP national president Conrad Sangma said the party would discuss this after consulting alliance partners.
“It is a very sensitive issue and we will decide everything after discussing it with our alliance partners,” Sangma said.
BJP, which is an ally of NPP, is already targeting to win at least 40 seats in Meghalaya. NPP is considered a strong opponent of the Congress in the State.
Reacting to a query, Sangma said NPP is open to alliance with non-Congress and like-minded parties for the Assembly polls.
NPP, which won only two seats in the last polls in 2013, is hoping for a turnaround in 2018. The party’s poor performance was, however, overshadowed by its resounding performance in the Lok Sabha and the GHADC elections.
