SHILLONG: UDP MDC Donkupar Sumer has termed as baseless the reports of over 30 members of the party’s Umsning circle resigning in protest against his candidature for the 2018 Assembly polls.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday Sumer said, “The claims that there were mass resignations in the Umsning circle is misleading.”
Sumer claimed that all sub circles and primary units within Umsning circle were dissolved and a new body will be put in place.
Commenting on the resignation of president of UDP Umsning circle Gilbert Nongrum, Sumer said the former had resorted to anti-party activities and before he could be called for explanation, he tendered his resignation.
Sumer asserted that many people from other political parties will join the UDP in May even as he urged the residents of Umsning  to have faith in the party which is “moving from strength to strength”.
It may be mentioned that several prominent leaders of the UDP’s Umsning circle had resigned from the party voicing their protest against allotment of the party ticket to Sumer.
