The Mattilang Multipurpose Development and Welfare Organisation which runs a park adjacent to the Elephant Falls in Upper Shillong now intends to collaborate with the State Fisheries Department to make a dam for rearing fish. Massive quarrying for rocks and boulders is going on with serious ecological consequences. The place is under the jurisdiction of the Laitmynsaw village and any development plans in the area have to have the concurrence of the village authorities, which has allegedly not been
done in this case.
