SHILLONG: Termed as a ghost enterprise after its name surfaced in the alleged misappropriation case involving UDP MLA Paul Lyngdoh, the proprietor of Syiem Enterprise has said that the firm has been unnecessarily dragged into the controversy.
Breaking silence on the accusation, the proprietor, S Syiem, in a statement issued to the media said it is not the suppliers’ job to identify the beneficiaries.
“We are concerned only with dispatching the goods as directed by the client,” she said.
On the allegations that the firm belongs to Danny Olson Syiem, an LDA at Directorate & Public Relations, S. Syiem said that the office has already clarified that there is no such person working in the department.
Referring to the allegations that the ‘detailed investigation’ from the Sales Tax office found that the registration of M/S Syiem Enterprise has not been renewed since 2012, Syiem maintained that all the documents were in order and are up to date.
Clarifying on allegations that Rs 73.25 lakh was paid to the firm against an order for miscellaneous articles she said that no such supplies were made. Syiem also maintained that photographic and documentary evidence of supplies made are all in order and can be verified by appropriate authorities as and when necessary.
The proprietor added that the mobile phone numbers as reflected in the cash memos/vouchers/bills etc., were registered in the name of her brother when her firm was registered back in May 2005.
She added that Tax Identification Number (TIN) as printed in the vouchers etc., is a typographical error (her TIN number is 17030873068 as per the allotted registration certificate number from the Sales Tax office) and no ulterior motive can be attributed to the slight typo.
Syiem said that following media reports, she had sought legal advice as her firm has been maligned thus affecting its perspective clientele.
