SHILLONG: An FIR was lodged on Saturday against 41 people for the murder of five persons in Mrigre, West Garo Hills in the name of witchcraft. The FIR was filed by Ringgat T Sangma, the surviving family member of five victims.
While police are searching for the villagers named in the FIR, the police had already given shelter to Sangma and her husband. Sangma’s parents Hallen T Sangma and Bala T Sangma and her brother Washing T Sangma were among those who were killed by the villagers.
“Even after the incident more than two years ago, we are still being threatened with dire consequences by the villagers and we are followed wherever we go. Our documents are with the Nokma and wherever we go and whatever we do, the villagers spy on us,” the FIR said
Earlier soon after the incident in January 2015, four persons including Nokma of the village were arrested in connection with the crime, but they were granted bail.
