NONGPOH: The Ri Bhoi general secretary of the United Democratic Party (UDP) has said the party’s central executive committee is above all, including MDCs, and no one can go against its decision.
UDP’s Rayonald Kharkamni, who is also the secretary of the central executive committee, was referring to the MDCs claim that the party cannot interfere in their decision as the District Council is an autonomous body.
“The Central Executive Committee (CEC) is ultimate and above every member, be it MLA, MDC or the party’s officials. None can go against its decision at the behest or influence or favouritism of any member’s self-interest,” Kharkamni said. Out of the four UDP MDCs supporting the PDF-led executive committee in the KHADC, two are from Ri Bhoi. Donkupar Sumer is from Umsning constituency and Arbinus Lyngdoh from Umroi constituency.
“I feel that the party should immediately ask for a reasonable answer or send a showcause notice to the four MDCs for going against the CEC’s decision,” Kharkamni said. He was speaking to media persons on Saturday. Kharkamni also stated that the UDP Ri Bhoi district stands by the decision taken by the Central Executive Committee on withdrawing support to PDF.
The UDP Ri Bhoi lauded Rona Khymdeit, the lone woman MDC from Ri Bhoi, for standing by the party’s decision.
