SHILLONG: KHADC chief executive member P.N Syiem has decided to discuss the issue of illegal collection of money at 13th Mile in Ri Bhoi.
Extending support to HSPDP leader Ardent Basaiawmoit for taking up the issue of illegal collection at the government weighbridge, Syiem said on Sunday that the matter is serious.
“We will discuss the matter in the executive committee to find a solution,” he added.
According to Syiem, due to the illegal collection, there is revenue leakage and this needs to be addressed.
He said both the State Government and the KHADC should jointly man the weighbridge as the loss of revenue will also affect the Council.
The share of KHADC’s revenue from coal is 25 per cent.
Earlier, Basaiawmoit had said those who man the weighbridge at 13th Mile are collecting Rs 7000 to Rs 10,000 per truck besides those who pay Rs 10,000 are allowed to ply without weighing the coal.
According to Syiem, the trucks are carrying coal beyond the permissible limit of 9 metric tonnes.
“Another anomaly is that the trucks carry coal with the same challans three to four times and some trucks are carrying coal without challans,” Syiem said.
