Popular TV personality Ellen DeGeneres’ The Ellen Show has won the outstanding entertainment talk show trophy at the 44th Daytime Emmy Awards.
It was honoured at Sunday’s live-streamed ceremony hosted by Mario Lopez and Sheryl Underwood, reported abc News. “She did it because it was the right thing to do,” said the show’s executive producer, Mary Connelly, of DeGeneres’ decision to be open about her sexuality and do the same for her character in 1997.
The Ellen Show was nominated alongside The Talk, The View, Kelly Ripa’s Live with Kelly, Maury Povich’s Maury. In addition, General Hospital was honoured as the best daytime drama, with top acting awards going to Scott Clifton for The Bold and the Beautiful and Gina Tognoni for The Young and the Restless.
Clifton became the first actor to receive Daytime Emmys in the categories of the best younger, supporting and lead actor in his career. Comedian Steve Harvey skipped the ceremony but was a double winner, including the best game show host for Family Feud and the best host of an informative talk show for Steve Harvey. (PTI)
