SHILLONG: Many girls from the North East have the talent to become top models provided they get financial help from the government, support from the family and the right promotion, said Mrs India Universal Sabina Parvez Warjri.
Addressing the media on Monday, Warjri, who is originally from Shillong, said though girls from the North East have “amazing talent for modelling”, many of them have to face financial hurdles. “The government should promote these local talents,” she said, adding that she wants to be a role model for others.
Proper promotion is also needed to introduce young talents to the world of modelling, she conceded.
Warjri, who is former Miss Shillong 1995, won the title of Mrs India Universal in Gurgaon on April 25 and is now preparing for the Mrs Universal contest in London in September where candidates from 30-35 countries will participate.
Her aspiration to compete for Miss India remained a dream when she got married. However, the 41-year-old beauty queen, who is also an entrepreneur, says she never gave up.
“I decided to participate in the Mrs India Universal. I could do this with the support of my family, especially my husband,” said the mother of two daughters.
“I would like to thank my director, Aizya Joshi, for giving me this wonderful platform for celebrating the joy of being a woman,” she added.
