UPLA ultras arrested in Assam
Guwahati: Three United Peoples Liberation Army (UPLA) extremists, including a woman cadre, were arrested from Khelmati area in Assam’s Dibrugarh district and arms recovered from them, police said today. Acting on a tip off, a joint team of army and police raided the area and apprehended the extremists hailing from Karbi Anglong district, police said. The security forces seized two pistols and 13 live cartridges from the arrested ultras, they said. (PTI)
Five die of chickenpox in Assam
Jorhat (Assam): Five persons have died of chicken pox while 13 others are undergoing treatment here, a senior government health official said on Wednesday. Five person have died in the last three days. They were admitted to the tea garden hospital while others are receiving treatment at their homes, Joint Director Health and Family Welfare Amrit Saikia said. “A team of doctors and health care officials from National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) have rushed to the spot for their treatment,” NRHM sources said. New Arunachal Assembly building ready
Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly’s new building is ready to hold its first session on May 12. Chief Minister Pema Khandu inspected the upcoming Assembly building on Wednesday. The Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Tenzing Norbu Thongdok briefed the chief minister on the status of the construction work, an official release informed here today. The Assembly building’s hall with most advanced facilities has seating capacity of 90. The executing agency informed the chief minister that the main Assembly hall was complete. The Deputy Speaker Tumke Bagra accompanied the chief minister during the visit. The Assembly houses chambers for the chief minister, the speaker, the deputy speaker and a resting hall for the legislators. The chief minister also inspected the library hall, the cafeteria and the conference hall, the release added. (PTI)
72 gram heroin seized in Mizoram
Aizawl: he Mizoram Excise and Narcotics department officials on Wednesday seized 72 gram of heroin from two places in Aizawl, a department spokesman said. The seized contraband is worth around Rs 3.6 lakh in the market. The Mizoram Excise and Narcotics department officials also arrested two persons – Zohlimpuia (32) of Aizawl and Vanlalruaii (36) of Champhai town at Mizoram-Myanmar border for possessing the contraband. The two accused were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, the spokesperson said. (PTI)
