Woman loses over Rs 1 lakh in cyber crime

SHILLONG: Cases of cyber crime are on the rise in the State, where people are being duped by miscreants. A woman has lost over Rs 1 lakh in a cyber crime related case on Tuesday.
A complaint was lodged, where the woman mentioned that she had received a message, saying that her mobile phone had won prize money of Rs. 3 crore and 6 lakh and one laptop from Samsung, United Kingdom and that one Diplomat will deliver the prizes to her on March 21 this year in India.
Later, the woman received phone calls from three persons who identified themselves as Priya Devi, Rani Devi and Sunil Kumar directing her to deposit Rs. 1, 85,000 in one SBI account at New Delhi.
The complainant complied and subsequently realised that she was duped when the trio’s cell phones were switched off.
