Hailstorm, lightning leave six dead in Assam

Guwahati: Six persons including a woman were killed and over 20 injured in Assam since Thursday night because of hail storm and lightning that caused extensive damage to property and uprooted a large number of trees in many parts of the state.
Out of those six killed two persons were killed because of being struck by lightning at Tinsukia and Demow in eastern Assam. Five persons including a woman were seriously injured due to lightning in Tinsukia. The hail storm claimed four more lives at Dibrugarh, Saupathar, Bokajan and Barpeta.
The stormed caused extensive damage to property in many parts of Golaghat district while the Railway town of Rangiya has been left devastated by the storm that uprooted a large number of big trees. A large numbers of houses were damaged after uprooted trees fell on those.
The supply of electricity has remained disrupted in many parts of the state lashed by the storm and heavy rain since Thursday night.
