SHILLONG: The completion of the Umsning Bypass, which is an integral part of the Umiam-Jorabat four-lane expressway project, now depends on monsoon.
Officials implementing the project said it all depends on how much the implementing agency can work during the rainy season.
Sources said the road is almost complete and final layering is going on. However, the project suffered minor glitches after there was a change of scope in the construction of an underpass and a bridge.
“The bitumen layering of the road will be completed in 10-15 days but still vehicles cannot ply on the road until the underpass and the minor bridge are constructed,” sources said.
The sources, however, informed that the work on the underpass and the bridge is going on in full swing. Once the bypass is complete, the four-lane project would be finally completed seven years after it was started in 2010.
The road project faced several hurdles, including controversies over alignment and delay in land acquisition proceedings.
