Lightning kills two in NGH

TURA: Two persons, one of them a five-year-old child, died in lightning strike at Bajengdoba in North Garo Hills on Monday.
Large parts of the district were hit by thunderstorm on Monday morning. Sources said Anamika G. Momin (41), who was an ASHA worker, was struck by lightning when she was inside her thatched house at Mendal.
“She was opening her steel almirah when lightning struck the rooftop,” said villagers. The almirah was charred due to the strike.
North Garo Hills police said a team had visited the village.
In another incident, a five-year-old boy died at Aduba village, a remote area in Bajengboba close to West Garo Hills district. The boy was standing at the door of his house when the lightning struck.
The storm also damaged scores of houses in three blocks of North Garo Hills – Kharkutta, Resubelpara and Bajengdoba.
Thunderstorms accompanied by hail and lightning are common in the region in the pre-monsoon season.
