WJH college goes cashless

JOWAI: At a time when there is push for digital transaction across the country, an educational institute from West Jaintia Hills has taken the lead, announcing that all transactions of the college will henceforth be cashless.
The principal of Thomas Jones Synod College, Jowai informed that the college will not accept cash payments for admission or tuition fees and others transactions.
“This will start from the next semester for students pursuing BA and B.Com,” the College principal, RR Kharkongor said during an awareness programme on digital banking organised by the college authority and the State Bank of India held at the college hall.
Chief Manager, SBI Jowai, ST Ngaihte said that the customers need not visit any bank for transaction as the service is now available in smartphones.
“When banks introduced ATMs, many failed to accept the system but now people are using ATMs,” he pointed out.
Another SBI Official, Debraj Baruah said that smartphone users can download an App called SBI Buddy to make online payments.
For colleges, companies and hospitals an App called SBI Collect has to be installed in any smartphone.
