NHRC to hear M’laya cases on May 17

SHILLONG: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will take up human rights violation cases in Meghalaya in Guwahati on May 17. The hearing will be attended by Chief Secretary K.S Kropha, senior home department officials, DGP S.B Singh and senior police officials.
Kropha told reporters that while on May 17, the cases related to Meghalaya will be heard by NHRC, the rights panel will hold meeting with officers, NGOs and other stakeholders the next day. A workshop on bonded labour will be held on May 19.
Sources said cases related to witchcraft, fake encounters, deprivation of PDS items to beneficiaries and ostracism will figure in the meeting with the State Government.
