JH weighbridge officials accused of taking money

SHILLONG/JOWAI: Truck drivers carrying consignments to and from the cement factories in the Jaintia Hills districts have alleged that weighbridge officials at Umtyra are taking money without receipts, police said on Wednesday.
A joint team of the West Jaintia Hills district administration officials and police recently detained 15 trucks for carrying cement, clinker and other goods more than the permissible limit of 9 metric tonne.
The trucks, which were coming from East Jaintia Hills, were detained during checking at 7th Mile in the district on May 5.
Admitting that they were carrying consignments more than the load limit, the drivers said the officials at Umtyra weighbridge were demanding Rs 500-2,000 to allow them to pass.
The trucks which were detained are AS-01-FC-2713 driven by Kel Shullai, ML-04C-4873 driven by Juster Tang, ML-04B-4873 driven by Roodaioo Tang, ML-05J-0088 driven by Losha Bina, ML-04A-3219 driven by Wilan Earnest Dhar, ML-04B-9878 driven by Michel Nongrum, AS-01-DD-8155 driven by Anuj Deb, AS-01-GC-9451 driven by Riverson Dkhar, ML-10A-5908 driven by Dabiangleiki Ryngkhlem, ML-07A-6339 driven by Poishwa Tariang, ML-05J-6097 driven by Phlur Mandar Nongsiej, ML-10A-4439 driven by Amos Shylla, ML-04B-4973 driven by Eibormi Lapasam, ML-04-9622 driven by Prosper Suting and AS-01-DD-0511 driven by Jusme Talang.
Meanwhile, Ri Bhoi police has charge-sheeted most of the coal-laden trucks which were seized in the recent past for overloading. The cases will be heard in court. It may be mentioned that the Ri Bhoi police detained almost 300 trucks recently.
