NONGPOH: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has raised concern over inordinate in delay of Residential School proposed to be set up at Nongrim Synjai under Raid Nongtluh, Ri Bhoi District.
The foundation stone of the residential school was laid by Dr. D.D. Lapang, Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya, on February 19, 2015, at Nongrim Synjai village.
An initial amount of Rs 2.5 crore was sanctioned and the same has been awarded to the contractor but it is a matter of embarrassment that the project did not start till date. Speaking to a media person, the general secretary of United Democratic Party, Ri Bhoi, Rayonald Kharkamni said that the party express concern that such an important project which aims to promote affordable and quality education to the students community of the District are left incomplete.
“The United Democratic Party acknowledge the state government for awarding such important to the District, but implementing the project without reaching up to the mark is a colossal misused of public money as the project is totally abandoned” Kharkamni said.
Firing salvo against the state government and the local MLA of Nongpoh Constituency, Kharkamni further said that laying of foundation stone for the construction of the project was merely to lure the local people as the foundation stone has garnered mosses while the project is still a distant dream.
He also added “if the project has been awarded to the contractor since February 2015, then why should the work remain stagnant?” When compare to other projects in other districts like the Model Schools in Garo Hill, they are being constructed ahead and almost in completion phase. “This is a pure case of irresponsibility on the part of the government. We are being neglected and we deserved a reasonable answer,” Kharkamni further said.
