Body fished out of pond, murder suspected
TURA: A body of a 30-year-old woman has been fished out of a pond at Solartek area of Phulbari in West Garo Hills on Thursday. Police suspect that the mother of three children, identified as Munni Bibi of Islampur, who had gone missing for the past three days, may have been murdered over a family problem involving her husband and a neighbour who is alleged to have been involved with the deceased.
Both, the husband and the neighbour, have gone missing but police were able to retrieve the cell-phone of the neighbour from the body of the deceased.

2 coal-laden trucks detained
SHILLONG: Detaining of coal laden trucks continues in East Jaintia Hills as two more coal laden trucks were detected by the police. On May 9 around 8.35 pm, during vehicle checking, Police detected one coal laden truck (ML-04A-5418) driven by Wishly Dkhar at Moowakhu NH-44, suspected to be carrying coal beyond permissible limit.On the same day, another coal laden truck (ML-10B-4353) driven by Rimiki Sawiong was detained at Deinchynrum NH-44.

Vehicles from outside State enter without papers
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Commercial Vehicle’s Union (MCVU) has alleged that vehicles from outside the state are freely transporting local materials in the state without any valid documents especially Trading License from the District Council. H. Mukhim, president of the Association said that the free movement of such vehicles from outside has caused a hurdle for the people of the state to earn their livelihood. The MCVU has demanded from the state Transport Department and the KHADC and JHADC to seriously look into the matter.

Toxicology report on GMRI death awaited
SHILLONG: The toxicology report of the two men, an emergency medical technician and a ‘pilot’ of a 108 ambulance, to ascertain liquor content in their bodies is yet to come. A statement from GVK EMRI 108 quoted sources at a hospital saying preliminary postmortem report states that the cause of death was traumatic injury to the head and chest of the victims. The duo, Teiborlang Lyngdoh and Pyrshangbor Marwein, died when the ambulance fell into a gorge at Mawngap on Wednesday. GVK EMRI said both Lyngdoh and Marwein were among the best trained and dedicated employees who had handled hundreds of emergency cases.

Personality development programme held
TURA: A Leadership and Personality Development (L&PD) programme was organied by the North Garo Hills Police at Montfort Secondary School in Resubelpara on Wednesday. The programme was graced by district Deputy Commissioner, SC Sadhu in the presence of Superintendent of Police, Dalton P Marak. During the programme, resources persons from Avenues Shillong stressed on group dynamics, character building capacity, personality development etc. Over 200 students from different schools of the area participated in the programme.

One youth stabbed, another threatened
JOWAI: A woman identified as Edel Trodis Dhar lodged a complaint with Nartiang Police in West Jaintia Hills, that her son, Herles Dhar was stabbed by Elias Biam of the same village. The incident happened on May 7 evening, as a result her son was rushed to Dr. Norman Tunnel Hospital in a critical condition. Police yet to arrest the accused. In another incident, Deibor Suiam of Pdeiniadaw village in West Jaintia Hills lodged a police complaint on May 3 Mas Manner had threatened to gun him down. A case of threatening has been registered by the police.

Gelatin sticks, detonators detected in EJH
SHILLONG: The Magistrate and the Police of East Jaintia Hills have detected a huge quantity of gelatin sticks and detonators. On Wednesday, during mine raid at Umshong Area, the Magistrate and the Police recovered 180 gelatin sticks and 92 detonators from one abandoned coal camp.

North Liberty School’s Science stream inaugurated
JOWAI: The Deputy Chief Minister, RC Laloo inaugurated the Science Stream of the North Liberty Secondary School in Jowai on Thursday, in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner, R Rapthap as the guest of honour and Superintendent of Police, R Muthu along with District School Education Officer, M Pde as the special guest. The North Liberty Higher Secondary School located at Mookyrdup, Ladthadaboh and the Campus of the Science Stream is located at Mission Compoud in the multi-story building of the Deputy Chief Minister. The Principal of the School, Richard Uriah informed that the Science Stream would tried to served the best to students and hope to produce first class students to served the town and the district.

District Science Exhibition held
JOWAI: A two-day science exhibition under Rastriya Madhayanik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) on the theme ‘Science & Technology for Nation Building’ was inaugurated by R. Rapthap, Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills at St. Mary Mazzerello Girl’s Higher Secondary School in Jowai on Thursday.The exhibition was organised by the office of District School Education Officer & Distrct Project Coordinator, RMSA. Inaugurating the exhibition the Deputy Commissioner said that science plays a very important role, it has affected our daily living system. “Science has removed our ignorance, help us to explore and lighter our toils. Science has serve human being in all walks of life at home, in the fields and factory.” Rapthap said.  He said that exhibitions organised like this will help the students to be more creative and it will improve their knowledge.
