Dilapidated roads create inconveniences for locals

NONGPOH: Taking cognizance of the dilapidated road conditions in Nongpoh Constituency, the United Democratic Party (UDP) Youth Wing on Thursday, met the PWD, Executive Engineer to apprise him and follow-up the request made by the local MDC, Rona Khymdeit to the Government for immediate repair of various roads in the Constituency.
The Party, led by its president and general secretary, Phis Narlong and Pharapstar Manih along with the other members stated that the road from Nongpoh to Marmain-Umden, Pahammawlein to Lailad, Umden to Mawlong and Umdap to Shakoikuna are in a bad shape which requires immediate repair and attention.
The PWD Engineer, S. Laloo, in his reply to the Party, informed that the department is helpless due to fund constraints. He further informed that as far as the road from Nongpoh to Umden is concerned, the department will repair only the portions, which are in very bad condition, adding that a proposal for repairing the 1 km Umdap-Shakoina road has already been sent to the higher authority for approval.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, the Youth Wing leaders of the UDP lauded the initiative taken by the local MDC, Rona Khymdeit, who has also sent a letter to the higher authority of the department for repairing the roads.
The leaders urged the State Government to provide necessary funds for repairing of these roads as the present condition of the roads have created inconveniences to the daily commuters, especially the sick and ill persons of the area.
