GNLA cadre having links with border criminals surrenders

TURA: A hardcore GNLA militant, who also had links with trans-border criminals from Bangladesh operating in South Garo Hills District surrendered before the 20 Bn BSF based at Dobasipara near Tura on Friday.
Marus Ch Sangma (26) alias Dotling alias Rajesh from Telekhali Village under Gasuapara, who gave himself up before Commandant SH Sangkatha Prasad revealed that he joined the ANVC (B) in 2012 and underwent three months rigorous training at Bolsura under Sherpur District of Bangladesh with the sixth batch of the outfit. He was trained to effectively handle various assault rifles, carbines, pistols including explosives.
After the disbanding of the ANVC (B) on December 15, 2014, he came in contact with hardcore GNLA cadre, Bade Ch Marak alias Jakchu, who persuaded him to join the outfit.
After joining the GNLA in March 2015, Sangma actively worked as a private soldier of the outfit until his surrender on Friday. He is said to be closely associated with another GNLA cadre by the name of Kartush.
His job during his time with the GNLA was to serve as arms courier and guide during entry and exit of the outfit’s cadres to and from Bangladesh. Sangma revealed that he received arms consignments, camouflage dresses and other accessories from Bangladeshi nationals Dipon R Marak and Philip Mankin, who brought them from Chittagong and handed them over at Mymensing District. Sangma’s job was to deliver the arms and other consignment to the GNLA at a forest area in Telikhali Village and Jankhol Village area of South Garo Hills.
Sangma also made the revelation that he is closely associated with a number of notorious trans-border criminals which has been responsible for kidnapping and extortion of businessmen and civilians who travel between Dalu and Baghmara on NH-62.
Following the surrender on Friday, Sangma has been handed over to the police after necessary formalities.
The BSF has been instrumental in bring back to the mainstream misguided youths who have taken to arms. Earlier, five active cadres of the GNLA including a hardcore cadre of the ASAK outfit also surrendered to the BSF.
