SHILLONG: The Election Commission has assured all political parties that the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) will be used in the 2018 elections, said UDP MLA Jemino Mawthoh.
Mawthoh said voters can see the name of the candidate on the screen that will appear for seven seconds.
“We were able to deliberate on the issue of EVMs and VVPAT on which there were conflicting views. EC has assured that VVPAT will be used in all elections,” he added. The Director of EVM gave a presentation to clear doubts and apprehensions during a recent meeting.
There were seven national and 35 regional parties, including three members who represented HSPDP led by Renik Lyngdoh. Mawthoh and members of NPP also attended the meeting.
