SHILLONG: The state government is planning to set up special courts to deal with POCSO related cases after the recent direction of the High Court of Meghalaya in this regard.
There is unprecedented spurt in the crimes against minors especially related to rape. The pending cases in the various courts coupled with lack of adequate convictions have resulted in criminals perpetrating the crime against the minors.
An official source said that the cause concern is that in majority of the rape cases involving minors, the accused are known o the victims or both are related.
“There is a need to create more awareness among all sections of people to contain the menace which is disturbing the society”, the official added.
