Missing boys from Guwahati fled to Kolkata after flunking exams
Guwahati: Three students of premier Cotton College of Guwahati, who were reported missing by their families from May 11 last, had reportedly fled to Kolkata fearing reprimand for failing in their higher secondary first year examination. The sister of one of the missing boys was contacted on Friday evening by the boys over Whatsapp, informing her that they were in Howrah, Kolkata, and will be returning to Guwahati on Saturday. Local television reports, quoting the sister, said the boys had flunked their class XI examination but had lied about the result at home, fearing reprimand and punishment. They had gathered some money from their homes in the name of admission and tuition fees and fled to Kolkata by Saraighat Express on May 11. The boys have reportedly boarded a train back to Guwahati and are likely to arrive here on Sunday. (UNI)
Tripura cabinet clears proposed GST bill
Agartala: The council of minsters’ in a meeting last night approved the Goods and Services Tax (GST) bill of Tripura for placing it in the table of the special session of assembly on May 23 next. Finance Minister Bhanu Lal Saha said parliament has already passed Integrated GST bill (for international trade) and Central GST bill (for domestic trade) and now the states were asked to passed State GST bill (for local trade) on or before May 31 next. The state government has already prepared the bill considering the provisions of the central GST Act and all other arrangements for introducing GST from July 1 next has been made on the part of the state government, he stated. Saha however, pointed out that listing of the items for determining the tax slaves to be finalised in the final meeting of GST Council, is scheduled on May 18 next at Srinagar. As per the provision of the main GST Act there are four slaves of tax -5 per cent, 12 per cent, 18 per cent and 28 per cent but which items to be in which category of tax has not yet been finalised. He said Taxes and Excise Department yesterday held Special GST Dissemination Workshop for the members of Tripura Legislative Assembly where the salient features of Goods and Services Tax were discussed for better understanding of the members in changing tax regime. Canadian firm helping Mizoram develop world-class golf course
Aizawl: The Mizoram government is developing an international standard 18-hole golf course which has been designed by a Canadian firm, official said here on Friday. “The international standard 18-hole golf course is being developed near Thenzawl town in Serchhip District (in central Mizoram) as part of the central government plan to develop theme-based tourism circuits across the country,” a Mizoram Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) official said.
