BJP, Congress field candidate

Imphal: BJP state president Kshetrimayum Bhabananda Singh and vice president of Congress E Dwijamani will contest for the ensuing Rajya Sabha elections scheduled on May 25.
Jagat Prakash Nanda, Secretary, Central Election Committee on Sunday announced that the state BJP Chief will be the candidate for the elections.
The elections will be held at the Committee room of the Manipur Legislative Assembly here.
M Ramani, Returning Officer said nomination papers may be delivered by a candidate or by any of his proposers to the Returning Officer or to Rohit Sapam, Assistant Returning Officer, at Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat between 1100 and 1500 hours by May 15.
Scrutiny will be held at Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat on May 16 at 1100 hours.
Notice of withdrawal of candidature may be delivered either by a candidate or by any of his proposers or by his election agent .
The poll, if necessary will be done on Thursday, May 25 between 0900 to 1600 hours.
Counting will be done on the same day after the end of the voting.
Sitting MP Haji Abdul Salam of the Congress died on February 28, hence the election is necessitated.
Nomination papers can be withdrawn till 1500 hours of May 18 .
BJP has 28 members and Congress has 22 members. (UNI)
