Three women to represent state in National Arm Wrestling C’ship
Nongpoh:Three women from Ri Bhoi District will be competing in the 41st National Arm Wrestling Championship to be held at Dilli Haat, Janak Puri, New Delhi from May 18 to May 22. The event is organised by the Arm Wrestling Association of Delhi under the auspices of the Indian Arm Wrestling Federation.Margaret Pathaw (60 kg) and Iaidapbiang Nongshli (55 kg) in the Women Senior Category and Ladapbiang Malieh (55 kg) in the Women Junior Category, all hailing from Umsning are all set to compete in the event. The village Durbar, women and youth body of Umsning Proper B on Saturday organised a programme to wish them luck and bless them before leaving for the event.It was attended by Umsning Proper B headman, Rocky Marwein, Rocky Kylla, Dexstella Nongbsap, Francky Marwein and other village elders.
Nongthymmai Sports and cultural club to kickstart playoffs
Shillong: The Nongthymmai Sports and Cultural Club league, will kickstart the Play-Off Round in which Nongkhyriem Warriors, Nongkhyriem Young Guns, Jyllishop Mainroad and Nongshilliang United Boys are scheduled to take part in the game.On May 16, Nongkhyriem Warriors will play against Nongkhyriem Young Guns in the qualifier round I. In the eliminator round, on May 15, Jyllishop Mainroad will play against Nongshilliang United Boys.
Hull relegated from Premier League after 4-0 defeat to Palace
LONDON: Hull City were relegated from the Premier League after a 4-0 defeat at Crystal Palace, who guaranteed their own survival with a superb performance today. First-half efforts from Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke were followed by a Luka Milivojevic penalty after the break and a late effort from Patrick van Aanholt to leave Hull on 34 points, four adrift of Swansea City above them with one match to play. Zabaleta to leave
Manchester City
Undated:Argentine international Pablo Zabaleta will leave Manchester City at the end of the season, the Premier League club announced. “The 58-times capped Argentina international is out of contract in the summer and has informed the club he will move to pastures new,” City said in a statement. The 32-year-old defender has not said where he will go but is one of the first names to confirm his departure in what is expected to be a busy transfer season for coach Pep Guardiola as he seeks to make his side more competitive. Zabaleta, who joined City in 2008 from Espanol and made 332 appearances, is expected to play his final home game at the Etihad Stadium against West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday. (Reuters)
ICC hikes prize money for Champions Trophy
Dubai: The International Cricket Council has hiked the prize money for this year’s Champions Trophy by USD 500,000, making it USD 4.5 million with a winner’s share of USD 2.2 million.”The upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in England and Wales from 1-18 June carries a total prize money of USD 4.5 million with the winner of the eight-team tournament taking home a cheque of USD 2.2 million,” the ICC announced.The eighth edition of the tournament sees an increase of USD 500,000 in prize money from the 2013 edition, which too was played at the three venues being used this time Cardiff Wales Stadium, Edgbaston and The Oval.The runner-up of the tournament will get a cheque of USD 1.1 million, while the other two semifinalists will earn USD 450,000 each. Teams finishing third in each group will take home USD 90,000 each, while the teams finishing last in each group will get USD 60,000 each. (PTI)
