JOWAI: The Jowai Block Congress Committee (JBCC) has demanded immediate removal of Power Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, who represents Nartiang constituency, from the Cabinet for his anti-party activities.
Jowai is represented by Deputy Chief Minister and five-term MLA R.C Laloo.
Dhar, during a public meeting, had announced that he would field his candidate from the constituency.
The president of the JBCC, A. Andrew Shullai, has lodged a complaint to the district Congress, copies of which were sent to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and Shillong MP Vincent H. Pala.
“Various units under JBCC have reported that Dhar had come to their locality and announced that he would field a candidate from Jowai constituency and asked the people for their support,” the complaint letter stated.
The complaint added that Dhar had conducted several meetings and publicly challenged Laloo saying his candidate would face the veteran leader.
According to JBCC, such activities have damaged the image of the Congress in Jowai, which is the party’s stronghold. This has also dampened the spirit of grassroots workers and put a question mark on the discipline within the party.
JBCC said the party should take strong action “by dropping this minister from the Cabinet and withdrawing all posts that he is holding and also party proceeding should be drawn against him”.
