SHILLONG: A supporter of former Cabinet minister J.A Lyngdoh, whom the State BJP is planning to field from North Shillong in the 2018 elections, quit the party to join the Congress.
Lurshai Lyngwa, who submitted his resignation letter on Friday, said he decided to support sitting legislator Roshan Warjri “after analysing the situation”. He added that more than 75 BJP members are resigning with him.
“My analysis says Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and his team have proved that it is only the Congress that can ensure a stable government in the State,” Lyngwa said and added that the national party deserves another chance.
He also said Warjri deserved a second term since  “she has done a lot for the constituency” and at the same time people in Meghalaya would take a long time to accept the ideology of BJP.
In Meghalaya, politics is more about the personality of candidates, he added.
